“I’m Not Like Everybody Else.” Andee Scarantino

It’s not just a great song by The Kinks!

It’s also a common phrase and a symptom of a common problem for people who are experiencing things like substance use disorder: terminal uniqueness.

People often have this underlying belief that they’re so different from others, and for it, they don’t seek out community.

That’s an issue because community is one of the most important steps to recovery.

Also, with knowledge comes the understanding that a lot of people experience the same shit you do, and often, there’s actually hard science to explain it.

Americans want to be staunchly unique. It’s bred into our culture, but it doesn’t always serve us, especially when it keeps us from reaching out to others.

As mentioned in this podcast- I highly recommend picking up the book Alcohol Explained by William Porter if you’re looking to get off the sauce. It was the first book I read when I was getting sober.

Also, as I mentioned at the end, here’s a link to my FREE email series: Drunk and FAT to Fit and FIERCE in 10 Days.
