On Drinking: There’s Nothing Happening Here

Humans like to attach a lot of meaning and story” to sobriety, but all sobriety is, really, is a beverage choice. (Credit to MartinJon, my wonderful partner, for that line.)
When we talk about stopping drinking, we tend to do a few things.
One of those things is trying to convince ourselves that alcohol adds tremendous value to our lives.
Let me be clear: There is nothing happening here.
When we drink in excess, we are the opposite of awareness.
When you’re out drinking, nothing is happening. And if something is happening, the thing that you’re enjoying is not the booze. The thing you’re enjoying is being dulled by the booze because your entire human experience is being dulled by the booze.
The grey matter in your brain is decreased. Your senses are dulled. Your life is lived in a haze.
The more you drink, the more you fuck yourself out of being able to enjoy your own life.
