Protecting Your Energy to Move the FUCK Forward

"Where the energy goes, the energy flows."
Where are you investing your energy?
I worked at the same restaurant for a third of my life. At the time, I was grossly unhappy but didn’t know how to shift. What I ended up doing a lot of was making other people and things in that environment my “work.”
OH, I WISH I could tell you how many senseless “sit-downs” I had trying to “explain how things needed to change.”
In reality, I was just taking the precious energy I could have been using to move my life forward, and dumping it into “busy work.”
It gave me the illusion I was progressing, but what I was really doing was expending energy toward a result I didn’t really want.
I get that people have to work survival jobs and that people need a source of income while they pursue their passions. I wasn’t born with a speck of money.
What I also get is that those things suck your energy dry. If you have to devote time to them because you need to eat and sleep, fine, but only dedicate the MINIMUM amount necessary. Minimum effective dose, a la Tim Ferriss.
We need to be very conscious about our use of energy when we are attempting to create.
We also need to be conscious of what energy from others we are allowing in.
Sometimes, that means a relationship friend or two has to be put on hiatus. Sometimes, that means that we need to be guarded with people we allow to engage with us.
Also, reinforcement of behavior is also something to pay attention to.
This episode is all about energy, and how in the past, I haven’t always had a tight grip. I hope by listening to it, you can get a better idea how to manage your own energy, and use that power to pull yourself forward.
