Show Up Imperfect
I started The Get the F*ck Off Podcast without much thought or preparation.
I knew that a podcast would be complementary to what I did overall, so I bought a mic, and within two weeks, I had put my first few episodes out into the world.
Neither of those episodes was perfect. In fact, even now, I wouldn’t consider what I do to be “perfect” by any means.
People spend their lives waiting to do things until they feel they’re 100% “ready.”
You’re never going to be 100% ready, and the first time you do something, no matter how great you think you are, is going to be awkward as hell.
The world celebrates those who celebrate themselves, and who are willing to share their gifts with as many people as possible.
We have this idea that we should:
1. Learn to do the thing
2. Do the thing in secrecy
3. Talk about what we did and gain all the approval once it’s done
That’s actually not how it goes. It actually looks more like this:
1. Start doing the thing
2. Learn as you go
3. Speak proudly the whole damn way through.
I showed up as a fat, slow, back-of-the-pack runner to a half marathon when I never ran a race before. I showed up imperfect.
I showed up to a wellness community as a pack-a-day smoker.
I showed up as a podcast host with three episode ideas and not a single solitary guest.
I showed up as a coach with nothing but a desire to help.
Show up imperfect. If you’re waiting for things to feel more ready or right, that’s not going to happen. Learn as you go, and enjoy the fun.
