Stopping Drinking in 2022? A Podcast on Alcohol Use and Behavior Change
As many of you who follow me know, I stopped drinking two years ago.
I don’t put out a ton of content on sobriety. THAT is deliberate.
There are a few reasons for this. Mainly, drinking is simply a behavior that lies on the surface of you. It isn’t your identity, and should you decide to stop, recovery does not have to become your identity. It’s simply a part of you.
It occurred to me, however, that this is probably the time of year people want to read about sobriety, what to expect, how it felt for me, what was difficult, what wasn’t, etc.
Before I stopped drinking, I was very “put off” by many people in recovery. I didn’t like the disease model of the anonymous groups, and I certainly didn’t like the idea of my sobriety becoming an all-encompassing factor in who I was.
It turned out, that didn’t happen at all.
I become more radiant, more powerful, and more fun.
I think it’s important, however, to get a good idea of what to expect, what’s difficult, and how things like “triggers” work.
This is definitely a stream of consciousness narrative… What I say isn’t sage. Some of it is science. Some of it is soul. And some of it is story.
However, it’s a pretty good recap of my own experience and definitely aimed to be of service to the sober curious who are thinking of kicking the booze to the curb in 2022. 👊🏻💥
